Very much enjoyed this movie on dvd. Good mixture of casting with the 3 main leads being relatively unknown to most of us as viewers, with a good supporting cast of adults (most notably real-life married couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally). Many Savers will recognize Offerman and Mullally via their tv roles on series like Parks & Recreation, Will and Grace, and more. That said ... the film is a good coming-of-age tale. Adolescent rebellion and exploration ... and great visually as plenty of the scenes are s...

We very much enjoyed this movie in recent months. Another excellent performance from Jake G' ... and great to see him picking better roles in recent years to show off his acting chops (Enemy, Prisoners, End of Watch, Source Code). Definitely recommend him in all of those additional projects listed. Very good direction in this one from Dan Gilroy as well ... solid fellow casting with Ahmed, Russo, Paxton, and company to boot, Savers. A strong 8 - 8.5/10, we felt. Check out the list of the movie's nominations ...

We had a chance to check out this movie (from just over 20 years ago) on dvd in early-2015. A funny one for sure, it starred Denis Leary, Kevin Spacey, Christine Baranski & more earlier in their careers. For people who have recognized other projects from Leary (such as the Rescue Me series earlier in the 2000s) you'll see some additional familiar faces in smaller roles too. It's to the point at an hour and a half, and doesn't tend to lag much. Funniest scene was the holiday dinner table meal in the f...

Had a chance to check out Whiplash in recent months, and definitely recommend it. Good to see Miles Teller still doing his thing (easily one of the better younger actors in recent years. If you want to see another of his better roles ... check out The Spectacular Now. Good little flick there too) and J.K. Simmons was stellar in his role & well-deserving of his recent Golden Globe & Oscar wins. Good intensity showcased by both co-leads throughout the flick. What helps the film is that it doesn't drag much...

A very fun movie experience on the whole. We had a chance to check it out recently on Netflix, and had meant to eventually get around to it since it was released back in 2012. Great direction per norm from Wes Anderson, and he was helped along by a stellar cast including the likes of Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Jason Schwartzman, and more. Both younger actors were good in their own right too, and held their own alongside the powerhouse cast of names mentioned in the li...

We had a chance to check this documentary out via the Netflix platform last weekend. I'd heard of the doc' in recent years per friends' reviews, as well as reading critics' ones online & in newspapers, etc. The doc' runs just over an hour and a half in length, and was released in 2011. Throughout it gives you plenty of documentation towards the health benefits we'd all experience if we modified our diet from that which most North Americans have tended to follow over time (i.e. - plenty of...

Quite the intense movie ... we had a chance to check it out recently, and it held our interest throughout given the intensity & seriousness of the subject matter. Very strong cast as well including the likes of Brad Pitt (good role choices the past decade plus), Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Michael Pena (American Hustle, End of Watch, etc), Shia LaBeouf (Lawless, Transformers, The Company You Keep), Brad Henke (The Frozen Ground, Pacific Rim), Xavier Samuel, Jon Bernthal (The Wolf of Wall Stre...

Visited one of their Washington locations earlier in the month of Dec' 2014. We had a late breakfast / early brunch and enjoyed the experience. The restaurant was modestly busy at the time (around 11am or thereafter) and the staffing were all pleasant with customers/diners. Food was pretty tasty too. They offer menu items, as well as their Sunday brunch (at 17.99) so we settled for the latter just to try out a bunch of stuff. The following links lead you to their site & said brunch buffet choices which run ...

Enjoyed this movie after seeing it in recent months. Good to see both the film (2014) and book (2012) were both well-received by many fans and critics alike. The film centres around two young people who meet at a cancer patients' support group and the journey they take together when building their relationship. A nice, believable chemistry between the co-leads Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, and the film also co-stars Laura Dern, Willem Dafoe, and more. See links for further information, if interested.  ...

We had a chance to watch A Million Ways to Die in the West a few months back. The film was directed by Seth MacFarlane, and co-stars him, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman, and many more. Looked quite good from a viewer's perspective as much of it is filmed outdoors/outside ... though the film does drag with the bathroom humour and running time (just over 2 hours). They could have probably trimmed it down it down to approx' 1 hour, 40 mins without losing too much of the story. &...

Great movie. We watched it recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Robert Redford (at 77 / 78 years of age) showing off his acting chops. Very minimal dialogue in the movie, and put it this way ... if you enjoyed the film Life of Pi, you'll undoubtedly enjoy this one too. Basically it puts you in the subject's position and asks you over & over again ... "What would you do?" Does one panic, give up, perservere, keep fighting? What exactly becomes of one's outlook? Well worth the watch ... and gr...

Watched 22 Jump Street recently. It was ok and had its moments. Predictable humour, as expected. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are a fun duo, and Ice Cube was funny again in his role. Didn't enjoy it as much as the 21 Jump Street film previously, but it's interesting to see where they take this franchise after the original tv series (which aired from 1987 - 1991 starring Johnny Depp and others, and filmed primarily in North Vancouver, B.C. of all places, Savers) back in the day. There will surely be more seq...

Tasty sandwich. Had printed off a coupon for us online (good through January 31st, 2014 - nice to have the wide expiration window) for a B1G1 free offer on various subs from a restaurant/dining section off the Yellow Pages' site when you buy 2 beverages. Picked up 2 of these and 2 mid-sized beverages and enjoyed the sammies. Made sure to load them up with veggies (as with any visit to a Quizno's or Subway) to get more bang for the buck. All in for 2 large subs and 2 bevs came to around $11 or so. I'd rec...

This is an enjoyable newer series. Happened across it earlier this fall, and it airs on the Esquire network in the U.S. - check your local listings in Canada as it may also air on there here if you have the network as part of your digital bundle. If memory serves correctly it airs on the DTour network (via Telus). Quite enjoyable as it picks a notable actor/comic and travels with them on a "getaway" to a destination (or place they're familiar with) of their choice. The episodes I've seen have inclu...

We visited the Hop Jack's location in the Lacey region of Olympia, WA earlier this past week. We had a party of 5 for a weeknight meal, and enjoyed our experience. 3 in the group had been there before, so it was good to take their word for it. If you're familiar with places like Chili's, TGIFriday, Cactus Club, Red Robin & others (aka - pub and casual dining food) ... you'd probably enjoy the food & beverage offerings here too. We stayed for a couple of hours to visit and dine ... and the pla...
