I have a pay-as-you-go plan from Rogers and it allows me to modify my plan depending on my financial resources that month. I just came out from a 3 year plan with Telus. I was wondering if that would be the better way to go or another plan would've worked out just fine?

I am just looking at getting a cell phone and am wondering who would be the best provider . I am thinking of getting a pay as you go plan as I am not sure what I will really require. Is there a pay as you go plan for the Samsung Instinct? Vince I will let you know what I find out.

I'm using Fido(Rogers) for the last 5 years and I'm happy so far....Of course I'd be happier if monthly fee goes down :-)

Naturally there are benefits to both options. The decision hinges on how much you use your cell phone. If it is an everyday necessity, then definetly a monthly plan is going to be the best way to suit your needs. However, if your phone is only used a few times a week, then a pre-paid plan will keep the cost down while giving you the service you require.

I find telus prepaid offers better value compared to rogers. The unlimited 45 plan is pretty good check telus' website you might find it to be a better deal with more options.

We have one pay as you go, and 1 on a monthly plan with Rogers. Neither gets used much.

With the pay as you go, that phone only costs 11.50 per month to keep it topped up.

Joined Bell in June 2004 - free phone / 200 mins / free voicemail - call display - call forwarding + 3-way, etc & 20% discount (health care / corporate pcs plan)
Upgraded phone/plan in 2006. Plan (taxes/fees included) was $34. Got another free phone with my credit.
Upgraded again in January 2009 ... used my credit and some leverage/bargaining power (via customer retention on their end) and got bumped to 300 mins / got an additional 10% discount (from 20 - 30% now) / another free phone, etc. Plan is now $28 and I'll keep "grandfathering" it in the years to come.
I typed out what I had / what I wanted and DIDN'T want and brought it in with me to discuss at the Bell store. No problems at all. Very helpful and thanked me for being clear/concise with them. Asked them if they wouldn't mind me walking around Brentwood Mall in Burnaby, B.C. and weighing the competition. They said fine ... sounds good. So I took 45 mins and went to ROGERS / FIDO / TELUS / KOODO / WIRELESS WAVE and another place and showed them my photocopied plan statement and wants/non-wants and they all said - "You've got a solid deal, man. Stay with Bell ... we can't top that ..." - I was glad the others were HONEST, as they kept offering me text / way less minutes / no discounts, etc and all the plans offered were $25 - 35 more/month.

Yes ... and the trick is (with any provider) to just be patient and clear/focused with what you want/don't want ... I've found the experience(s) pretty painless in that when I last renewed my contract I went in there and had done my research at Phone Scoop and such sites, and also knew what products were available in-store/online through Bell ... and basically printed off my WANT/WISHLIST and pointed out what I didn't want or need as well.
That way instead of just wastin' time and oxygen ... I just handed them the piece of paper and they looked it over and knew how to help me and not beat around the bush. Got a few compliments from the people at Bell, Rogers, Fido, Koodo, Solo, and Wireless Wave there at Brentwood Mall in Burnaby, as I wasn't walking around aimlessly asking random questions.

We just signed a 3 year contract with Telus - husband refuses to go to any other provider as they dont keep a signal when we drive up North. So got a new smartphone, with data plan, long distance, unlimited text for $20 less a month than our previous contract. We had still been paying that stupid system access fee!
Very happy with my new Motorola Charm and I finally learned to text :)

pay as you go or monthly - really depends on how much you use the phone, how stable is your job. Do you need the phone for work?
