I live and shop in a small town, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Getting to know small business owners, and have them get to know you ... it just makes everything personal and friendly. I could drive an hour to save a few bucks at Walmart.... but I try to keep the small town economy going when I can.
We lived in a smaller town for many years. Fast and friendly service. Personal service. The small town business owners need your business so they have to be friendly.
CaribooGranny ... absolutely ... smaller towns are where it's at. People from 70 Mile House and 100 Mile House (per your profile under your avatar image) = great. Always loved visiting there with family in the summer ... great community/communities and good-hearted people.
Well, I'm a big-city girl at heart, but currently living in a (very) small Ontario town. I make a point of buying local whenever possible, even down to the few chains operating here, like Home Hardware, Macs, and the LCBO. That's the only way our small towns will stay viable.
