The latest Bell Mobility text messaging rate increases and changes

http://support.bell.ca/en-BC/Customer_service/Billing/What_are_the_latest_Mobility_rate_changes?EXT=MOB_Off_URL_changes_PC_en

http://www.bell.ca

Effective August 1, 2011, pay-per-use text messaging rates will change as follows:

  • Sent and received text messages (including messages sent to the U.S.) will be changed from $0.15/message to the rate of $0.20/message.
  • Text messages sent from Canada to international destinations will be changed from $0.25/message to the rate of $0.35/message.
  • Messages sent from your mobile device to an application (Facebook, Twitter, MSN (instant messaging and email), Webmail, etc.) will be changed from $0.15/message to the rate of $0.20/message.
  • Messages sent to your mobile device from an application (Facebook, Twitter, MSN (instant messaging and email), Webmail, Movie Quiz, Zemgo, etc.) will be charged at the rate of $0.20/message.

These changes will have an impact if you:

  • Exceed the number of sent and received text messages allotted in your rate plan or bundle
  • Use pay-per-use messaging
  • Have a limited text messaging bundle: messages received from a mobile application will come out of your allotted text messages

If you have an unlimited text messaging rate plan or bundle, you will not be affected by the rate increases for domestic text messages and messages to/from applications.

You can save on your messaging costs by signing up for a text messaging bundle.

Please note: subscribers in the province of Québec will not be impacted by these changes. If you are a Québec customer under an Ontario account, you will receive an e-bill message about the changes but you will not be impacted.

PG - Exactly. I remember a handful of years back it was free to receive text messages, but there was a charge on sending 'em (when you had a basic plan). Then they introduced a fee on receiving 'em ... and now it's going up some more. I've been with them for 7 years, and don't do texting, and I've grandfathered my contract along always (with free features and 30% discount) so I'm content on the whole and staying with them. Otherwise I'd probably be with Fido or Mobilicity. My contract comes due in January 2012 so I'll see what else I can get added to my plan free of charge as they retain my customership. I always play good hardball with 'em =)

Noah ... gotta be. I was grateful back in 2004 as I explained to them then that I work in community residential mental health, and at the time I was doing Temp' PT + oncall for a few organizations. I graduated over to Temp' FT and oncall, and then PT, and FT now ... and was doing a variety of shifts, so they immediately gave me a 20% "Corporate PCS Plan" and the free features and savings. So when I've renegotiated over the years (late-2006 / early-2009) I've been able to use my credit for free phones, and they've increased my minutes and given me 30% savings now. So it should be interesting to see where I stand in January 2012 (from May 2004 onward).

Your right PG13, everything is going way up, and your getting less service. I stopped using and paying for the texting feature on my phone a long time ago. It just wasn`t worth it.

51 - I prefer regular phone calls. I understand how texting can be very convenient, especially since it's direct and to the point ... and also because it doesn't disturb someone else if they're in a rush or don't have the time to talk, and vice-versa. I just haven't used them enough over the years, so I've never included them in my plan(s) with my provider.
