John Gibson  took his two kids to visit their grandparents in Phoenix over the Christmas holiday, he decided to let his kids stream movies such as "Curious George," "Spider-Man" and "Shrek" from his Netflix account using the kids' grandfather's air-card on his laptop.  Should be cheap after-all he was using his Netflix account, except for one thing he did not take into account. The cost of data and roaming. In the end, he was sent a 11,000 dollar charge from Netflix for streaming.  Shock by the bill, he managed to explained the circumstances to the company and got the figure down to $1,000.00 bucks.  I am sure he has learnt his lesson, and just buy a cheap car DVD player and some DVD movies for the kids.

Wow those are some expensive movies. yes I am sure he learnt his lesson on a side note once I couldn't get my usb with a downloaded movie to work on my computer and it worked great on my digital picture frame I watched the whole movie on it

That would almost send me into cardiac arrest. He still had to pay $1000; pretty expensive movies. It's another example of how companies can gouge you for something that is relatively inexpensive. Roaming charges has become a byword for "we can nail your pocketbook for anything we want to". That's why they say that if you are visiting Europe, it is cheaper to buy a cellphone from a local carrier and activate it rather than using your own.

It's too bad you can't be warned beforehand that this is what's going to happen. Obviously if he knew that he would be charged this exorbitant amount, he definitely would be renting local movies for the kids.

I wouldn't know where to rent a movie now that so many have closed down.

Thats stupid! The company should have to contact the person when fees hit a certain amount or block the account until a pre approved payment agreement for large amounts is set up. The service provider should have to eat the bill (as it said it did for most of it) for not planning for this kind of situation. It has happened so often you'd think companies would have fail safes by now. :o

Thats a lot of money to pay back, even $1000.00 is way too high. Companies should warn people when this happens. They known this is money that the average person can never repay back, so why do they let it happen?
