Recommendations for Income Tax programs ?
I am going to be doing my income tax for the first time in many years.  I have had someone do it because it has been sort of complicated but now it is simple and I have a low income so do not want to pay someone.  I have heard you can do it on the computer, and even e-file.

What do you use and what do you recommend.

I have heard a lot of ads for TurboTax.  Are there free programs for people with low income?

I have been doing online tax return from INUIT for 4 years now. This year it is known as Turbo Tax.
You can start off with the free version and you may be lucky and not have to pay, if you do
have to pay it is around $18 to file and you can use net file to file.

That's true PG13 but start off free and do not upgrade until it tells you.

"I've been using the StudioTax (free software, created here in Canada) for 3 years now for my income tax returns. I just began my return for 2010 with it, and should get $2000.11 back this year (thanks to maxing out my RRSP contribution). You can download it from http://studiotax.com/

Ignore the advertising on the site. The creator of it using that to make money to support the product. StudioTax is free, and another deal-site has done a comparison of all the tax software packages and StudioTax is right up there as a sweet deal.

I've tried all the other software packages, but free gets me everything and has always provided the highest tax rebate."

Thanks very much for posting that Evan. I have a PC bank account and have been doing my taxes online for the last few years so I'll definitely give it a try. I think last year I paid something like $20. I doubt somehow there's a huge difference between the companies so I'll save my $10 and give it a try. :)

Sounds good, Veeera. Let me know how it works out. I filed my taxes on Friday, March 18th - AM and I was thinking about waiting and trying the free program at http://www.studiotax.com ... didn't get around to it though.

Noticed on the CRA website that my paperwork had been received as of March 30th. Hopefully they can assess/process it and mail it back out in the next 2 weeks or so.

We used TurboTax this year and thought it was wonderful. The cost is $35. We will use it again next year. All you have to do is put in the figures. It was great. Our refunds were processed in a short length of time.

Ufile would be my suggestion...inuit is good too, they both do the same thing and more or less work the same...so it is down to price and whether or not you use any other products like budget program etc..if you use other products, better to stay with the same brand
