Police are getting extra funding to crack down on distracted drivers in Manitoba  in Feb.That is, drivers who are on cell phones and drivers  texting while driving.

Gee,I hope this makes people change their habits but I am not optomistic.

Do you think this is a good idea?

ITS A SURE THING, BOY NEED TO GET AFTER THESE PEOPLE,WHEN GO TO MONTREAL,EVERY TIME SEE PEOPLE TEXTING WELL DRIVING..DONT KNOW WHY CAN WAIT TILL THERE OUT CARS. RESKING OTHER PEOPLES LIFES. AS WELL AS THERE OWN.

People need to stop multitasking and just focus on what they are doing.

It is a great idea. I wonder if the police have time though. They are so busy with other things.

$200 here is the fine. Up it to $1000 and people will quit I think

Against the law to text or phone in BC unless "hands-free" operation. They have a crackdown here as well. I don't agree with the distracted idea as this is a real subjective broad charge. What is distracted? Drinking coffee, looking at a billboard, blowing your nose? Hardly indictable offences but the cell phone users in the passing lane of the freeway concern me.
