I am taking a big leap of faith here.  I am going to review an activity.  Copying from the U.S., more and more Canadians are joining The Cash Mob Craze.  It is quite simple really.  A group of people pick a city, than select 6 businesses that must be independently and locally owned.  A poll is taken through Facebook to select the winning store.  The store that was picked is The Hobby Shop.  It is a classy institution in our city.  Than the people tweet to as many people they know with time and date.  So, last Saturday, between noon and 3 pm dozens of people mobbed the store and spent at least $20.00 each.  The action was highly successful.  It was even featured in our local paper.
What is the point? Independent and family owned businesses are being driven to extinction.  The impersonal, greedy franchises are taking over.  This means lower quality products, higher prices and fewer choices available for the consumer.  It is in our best interest to support our businesses!  Our community will become boring and colorless with out them.
This wonderful group of people are planning many more Cash Mobs Actions.  Join them if they pop up near you.  Or start one yourself.  Good Luck To All!

Marketplace is now almost 40 years old and they just get better and better.  Last's night 1 hour episode was particularly shocking.  Marketplace set up a sting operation on repairmen.  In the GTA they rented a house, hired a female actor to play the owner and wired the house with hidden cameras and microphones.  They tighten the chain on the toilet, loosen the hose in the kitchen sink and plugged the hose in the dishwasher.  Tom Harrington and the camera crew would hide upstairs to watch.  They than called repairmen to test their competence and honesty.  Some of the repairmen were amazing.  They immediately discovered the problem and fixed it often at no charge. The others, though, were incredibly dishonest and/or incompetent.  The sink is "toast" and needs to be replaced, the toilet needs expensive parts, the dishwasher requires major repair, etc.
When the repairman tells the woman this, Harrington and crews races down the stairs to confront the repairman.  It is no surprise when these confrontations get quite heated and nasty.
One of the low points of the episode is when a dishwasher repairman is alone in the kitchen, pees in the homeowners cup and puts it back!  Ugh!
The real eye opener though, is when they test garage door repairmen.  The garage door is slightly adjusted to keep it from automatically opening.  The doormen specialists were than called. I would never have believed what comes next if I had not seen it with my own eyes!  A pattern of systematic theft and blatant lies will leave you gaping in disbelief!
Of course this episode has created quite a bit of controversy.  Canadian sense of fair play has made some viewers complain that this was unnecessarily mean and unfair since the company's name and repairman's name are made public and they are being openly embarrassed.
You be the judge.  The episode is being repeated tonight on CBC at 5:30 pm Eastern or 7:00 pm.  Or you can go directly to the site and watch it online.  http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/2012/whentherepairmanknocks/  Have Fun!

I have a confession to make.  I have a secret love of end of the world movies plus zombie movies.  So imagine my thrill when I discovered my two loves combined in a television series!
The first episode starts in a small town in the U.S. where a destructive epidemic sweeps the entire world.  All leadership and the world infrastructure is gone.
Humans who are bitten become the walking dead.  These creatures hunt the surviving humans as food.
The shocked and battered survivors come together to find sanctuary and/or help with little luck.
Every where they go, seems to be worse than were they come from.  The group constantly struggle to survive as they get plucked off one by one by the walkers.
The dynamics between the members of the group is absorbing.  Two cops lead the group of different people of mixed races, different ages and agendas.
The special effects are amazing.  The acting is great.  The first season comprises of only 6 episodes.  The second season has 8 episodes.
The second season actually puts your beliefs upside down when you find the good guys falling apart. While the racist hillbilly that nobody likes, is the one who's actions are keeping everyone alive and safe.
The good part:  non stop action, involving characters and never knowing what will happen next!
The bad part:  please ignore the gaping holes of missing logic and incidents that do not make sense.  Good example:  They are starving to death but are walking past cars and store filled with food.  I also want to strangle the female characters who are drab and submissive.  Just put your brain on hold and enjoy.
I wore my zombie t'shirt while shopping today and was astounded at how many people have approached me to talk about this show.  Everyone is excited because the last episode will be seen on February 12th.javascript:nicTemp();  http://series-cravings.info/watch-the-walking-dead-online
