Have started watch this series on Netflix (which is now into season 4). It is about a group of 100 young people who have been sent from a space station in the future a century after a nuclear apocalypse on earth to see if the Earth is safe to be habitated again. It is somewhat interesting, and in the early episodes switches back from scenes on the space station and on earth, but it seems like there is always a constant crisis or revelation or incident that occurs when every scene ends.  So it is somewhat enga...

Saw this movie on opening weekend.  It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr Strange, Rachel McAdams as Christine (his girlfriend or ex -- I am not sure of their relationship), and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One. Dr Strange is injured in an accident, and searches how to cure his injury.  In his search, he comes across the Ancient One and learns powers of the mind, and in doing so, fights a villain who threatens the safety of the earth. Hopefully that gives enough of the plot without giving any major spoiler...

I have now had this drink about 4 or 5 times at Dairy Queen, and it is definitely my favorite blizzard flavor. It basically tastes exactly how it should -- pieces of caramel pecan turtles mixed into a vanilla ice cream base.  And the turtle pieces were in the shape of tiny turtles! Very filling -- I had a large which cost over $6.00 but I was entirely satisfied afterwards (it is very thick, like any blizzard drink). Highly recommended -- I would give this one a 9 out of 10.  The only reason I didn'...

Saw the re-make of the Magnificent Seven.  Plenty of stars -- Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard, Vincent D'Onofrio, etc. Without giving too much away, an unsavory character takes over a small town. Someone from the town finds help (the Magnificent 7) to help them regain their town back.  I liked it a lot.  It was very entertaining, even though I don't usually like Westerns.  I am not sure how close it was to the original, but I really didn't care.  I ...

For limited time only this Halloween season, Starbucks has a special Frappula Frappucino.  It is a white chocolate mocha frap with a strawberry puree interspersed through the middle of the drink.  A grande (large) size costs $5.99. I liked it a lot -- it was like a vanilla milkshake with a strawberry swirl.  I find some of the Starbucks fraps to be too strong but this one is just right.  I would definitely order it again.  I would give it an 8.5 out of 10 (I would give it a higher rating i...

Came across this channel recently.  This is a family that has apparently made a living by posting daily on youtube, with approximately 4.5 million subscribers  It is snapshots of whatever they do in their life.  The couple has 5 young children.  Shay Butler the father is apparently a multi-millionaire now, all because of his start on youtube. It is sort of cute, and appeals to a younger demographic and is sort of addictive, but at the same time, the family and the kids sometimes will get on my n...

I have seen the first two Ghostbusters movie (although I don't remember much of the second), so thought the new all female-Ghostbuster movie would bring a new twist/spin on things.  I was very disappointed.  The cast is just ok -- McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon and Jones -- although I didn't find any of them funny, and I don't think I laughed once during the movie.  The movie started OK, but I never quite understood the motives of the villain, and things were tied up too quickly at the end. ...

Saw this at a matinee last week.  I have seen all the X-men movies, so sort of knew what to expect, and this was no different.  This had the younger characters (not the Patrick Stewart/Ian McKellan gang).  In this instance, they were fighting a mutant from the past who had been resurrected.  Special effects were good, but nothing fantastic.  I would give it a 7 out of 10 as an OK summer entertainment movie.  I think the entire series is getting tired, and there are too many spin-offs ...

I had a promo offer from Starbucks for a frap, and since it was a hot day, decided to treat myself.  So I tried the new Double Double Fudge Bar frap.  Very chocolately.  And you could definitely taste the coffee flavor -- almost a little too strong for me.  Instead of regular whipped cream, they topped it off with chocolate flavored whipped cream.  For a grande size, it was quite expensive (regular price is $5.59).  I would give it a 7 out of 10.  It was OK, but I think a regular c...

Bought this on sale several weeks ago, and it was sitting in my cupboard, and finally hauled it out tonight to try it.  It is nice and chunky and thick, so it winds up being quite filling and substantial for soup.  The taste is very good -- rich and slightly tomato-ish, with big pieces of potatoes and miscellaneous vegetables.  The beef portion wasn't all that over-whelming, but I knew it wasn't going to be over-flowing with beef, so it met my expectations.  And it had a bit of a spicy t...

Recently tried this.  It also comes in a strawberry flavour and a plain version.  Kefir is a fermented milk, similar to yogurt, but with more probiotics.  It is great for digestive issues and over-all good health.  Apparently some people drink it as a post-workout drink. The size is one litre, and I believe I paid $3.48 for it on sale.  Nutritional info can be found here... http://www.presidentschoice.ca/en_CA/products/productlisting/pc-strawberry-kefir-probiotic-fermented-1--m-f--milk.ht...

The latest Todd Haynes movie -- with Rooney Mara, and Cate Blanchett as Carol. Set in 1950's New York, this is the story of Carol, a soon to be divorced mother, and Therese, a shopgirl in a department store who meet just before Christmas, and become involved in a love affair. The movie is extremely subtle, and shot beautifully to detail for the era.  Cate Blanchett is magnificent, and owns the screen.  Rooney does a great job as well.  Both are nominated for Oscars. This is the opposite of Star...

Was in the mood for a dessert, and this caught my eye at Sobey's.  It's a bundt cake shape and looks amazing with the icing drizzled on top.  I think it was $7.99 or $6.99, and it was on sale by a buck or so. It had a nice color when cut open.  Taste was OK.  You could tell there was pumpkin in the loaf.  But there wasn't enough icing, and it needed more spices or something to give it a little more oomph.  There was some type of nut sprinkled through the cake, but there sho...

Tried this for the first time last week.  It had been sitting in the back of the cupboard for several months, and I wanted some carbs with some chicken I was frying.  So out came the Uncle Ben Fast and Fancy. It was OK -- very orange!  LOL.  Taste-wise it was OK, similar to Kraft Dinner, but with rice instead of macaroni. I couldn't taste any brocolli, as the pieces were microscopic. I think I bought it on sale for somewhere around $1.50.  Time-wise, I think it took about 15 minutes fr...

Not going to give any spoilers here since the movie is just out -- but just general feelings and impressions. Would give movie a 9/10 -- it isn't perfect, but perfectly captures the magic from the first couple of Star Wars movies.  For a movie that was 2 hours and 16 minutes long, it went really fast. Was great to see a lot of old characters return - Leia, Hans, Chewbacca, etc.. As for the new characters, Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega), I went into the movie thinking I probably wasn't goin...
