CREDIT CARD COACH

This 2014 movie was a box office hit, and starred Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as the two police detective partners going on campus to solve another crime.  I didn't see the first Jump Street that these two starred in, so had no measure of comparison.  I found the movie to be only average at best.  It really wasn't that funny.  And there is no way that I can envision Jonah Hill ever being a cop. The best part was the end after the movie itself.  I would give acting a C, plot a C+,...

Sobey's makes several cream bar cakes -- the red velvet version, an autumn spice version, a carrot cake (although i don't think it is technically a cream bar cake) and their strawberry shortcake.  All retail at $9.99 and often have Club Sobey's offers of either 50 or 100 points.  Their strawberry shortcake is very nice.  Tastes very fresh.  With just the right combination of whipped cream, strawberries and cake.  The cake isn't huge -- about 3" wide by 8" long and m...

I always have found Starbucks food items to be hit or miss.  Or they seem to be way too expensive for what you actually get.  But I have found something that I actually like -- a lot.  It is their chocolate caramel muffin.  It is almost like a cup-cake -- very chocolatey and fairly moist.  And best of all, there is a big glob of melted caramel in the middle.  It goes great with a coffee and is fairly reasonably priced by Starbucks-standards; I think I only paid $2.25.  For taste, ...

This 2013 movie starred Tom Cruise, along with Morgan Freeman, Olga Kuryenko, Andrea Riseborough and Melissa Leo.  Set in the late 21st century, Earth has been devastated with the characters played by Riseborough and Cruise watching over the planet's protective drones.  They are about to finish their mission, but then a manned object lands on earth, with a mysterious occupant.  At that point, Cruise starts to question his mission and why they are there. The movie is interesting, and Cruise is act...

Originally out in 1993 and directed by Stephen Spielberg, I loved this movie when it first came out.  But considering it is over 20 years old, it is starting to show its age compared to other movies that are now out there which have much better special effects.  It stars Laura Dern, Sam O'Neill and Jeff Goldblum.  And everyone probably knows the plot -- a scientist brings dinosaurs to life using advanced biology and of course, things go terribly wrong.  Plus there of course 2 kids involved to...

Nominated for 10 Oscars, this 2013 movie has plenty of stars -- Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Robert DeNiro.  Without giving too much away, Bale and Adams are con artists, and the movie proceeds with them hooking up with an FBI agent in New Jersey.  The movie is set either in the late 70's or the early 80's.  I found it to be very slow moving (it is also 138 minutes long) and while somewhat entertaining, it just misses the mark for me.  With ...

Tried out Redbox.ca for the first time.  You know -- those are those red vending machines that you see outside retailers (ie Petro Canada, Sobeys, Real Canadian Superstore) where you can rent a DVD or a Blue Ray.  Registration is quite easy.  Only took several minutes.  Then you can go to the site and find the location nearest to you where you can hold movies, and then go pick them up.  You then swipe your credit card and out they come.  Then for about $2 a day per title, you can rent a...

Usually I can't stand BBQ chicken on a pizza, but Domino's version is very good.  It is probably because the amount of BBQ sauce is relatively minimal, so it doesn't overwhelm the taste.  The amount of actual chicken is nothing to brag about, but they add bacon, so it makes it a really nice combination.  It also comes with green peppers.  Plus I usually add mushrooms and double cheese, so it really turns out nice.  And best of all, if you use their online coupons, you can get the...

This is the movie that all the critics are raving about going into Oscar season.  I actually saw it several months ago, when it wasn't on many people's radar at that time.  As most people probably know, it was shot over 12 years, using the same actors, and literally chronicled the boyhood of the young boy, played by Ellar Coltraine.  Patricia Arquette as the mother is very good, and is likely going to win the Best Supporting Actress award.  Ethan Hawke as the father is also good as well.&...

So this is now my favorite drink at Starbucks.  A frappucino is an icy/milk based drink with extra flavoring added to it -- sort of like a thin milkshake.  And while some are sort of terrible, the chai frappucino is perfect for me.  It has a hint of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice -- and combined with a topping of whipped cream, it really hits the spot.  Maybe not the best drink on a very cold day, but if you are thirsty, and need something cool nad freshing, this really is amazing.  You ...

Neighbors is a hilarious movie centering around a young couple with a baby in the suburbs who finds out one day that a frat house moves in across the street.  Starring Seth Rogan, Zac Efron, and Rose Byrne. Of course, the relationship goes well at the beginning with the young couple and the frat boys, but it goes downhill quickly, with Seth and Rose plotting how to get rid of the frat house.  And of course, the fraternity doesn't go down with a fight.  Enjoyed it a lot. As could be expected base...

This is my favorite daily moisturizer.  It goes on light, is not greasy, absorbs well, and smells good.  Plus it doesn't make me break out. While the price is a little high (about $30), it lasts for a long time and is good value.  You can find it at Shoppers, the Bay, and other easy-to-find stores. Biotherm has a number of other moisturizers for men, but I like this one the best.  They have a good website:  http://www.biotherm.ca/Home/Home,default,pg.html In addition to their men'...
