This is the new Judd Apatow directed film starring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann. I found it quite disappointing with the characters lacking the likeability of his other efforts and the writing not very funny. The only laughs I got were from Charlene Yi who has a small part as a store clerk who works for Leslie Mann's character. I give it a 3/10

Thanks to saveland & alliance, i was able to attend the advance showing of Quentin Tarantino's latest epic. It's a real blast, with many good performances from the all star cast. As in all QT movies, there is a ton of violence and cursing which might offend some people and at a 2 hr 45 min running time it might be a long haul for others, but i loved it, especially the performance of Samuel L. Jackson as a plantation major domo. There are many funny bits also to break the violence. This will be on many top ten lis...

This is a film which supposedly documents the visit of King George VI to the country estate of President Roosevelt in 1939 just before World War II. It stars Laura Linney as President Roosevelt's distant cousin who he is having an affair with and Bill Murray as Roosevelt. I was quite disappointed in the movie, and noted many historical inaccuracies. The film meanders between the affair and the supposed political events of the visit. I found the dialogue unbeleivable and poorly written. In a positive vein, Laura Linne...

This is a documentary about a forgotten singer called Rodriguez, whose albums did not sell and he left the business. A few albums found their way to South Africa, where he became a HUGE artist during the apartheid era without him knowing about it. It's a nice story, and very entertaining. His music is amazing and deserves a wider audience. I hope this film gets a lot of exposure. I give it a 9/10

This is a new film starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catharine Keener, and Christopher Walken. The plot is about a string quartet, The Fugues, which begins to fall apart when the senior member develops a case of parkinson's disease. The plot is a bit too much like a soap opera for my tastes, but the performances are all excellent. Christopher Walken is surprisingly good, considering he has been basically playing a caraciture of himself for some years now. I give it a 7/10.

Thanks to Alliance Films, I caught this one on Thursday night. It stars Brad Pitt, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini, and Ray Liotta. It's a tale of a hitman in New Orleans in 2008 just before the presidential election. I enjoyed the movie, especially the one on one scenes between Brad Pitt and Richard Jenkins and Pitt and James Gandolfini. Very good acting indeed. If violence and blood bother you, you might want to skip it. The plot isn't much, but the good acting makes it very watchable. I give it a 7/10.

This stars Sir Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johannson. It tales place around 1959 and details the time that Hitchcock was making the famous movie "Pyscho" starring Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh. It's not bad, but the movie veers off course with a weird subplot where Hitchcock dreams that he is talking to serial killer Ed Gein. The cast do an excellent job with the material they're given, and the make up job on sir anthony is amazing. i five it a 6/10, and thanks to scene creek for the free passes.

This is a 2012 release which went straight to DVD and direct download starring Danny Trejo of "Machete" fame as a Vietnam veteran who decides to seek revenge for his friends murder. Charles S. Dutton and Ron Perlman co-star. While this movie will never win any awards, if you are a fan of exploitation type B movies, you will enjoy it. It starts slowly, but the action scenes are well done and Danny gives a humourous tongue in cheek performance. i give a 6/10.

This is a new movie which is getting some attention and is directed by Lee Daniels who directed "Precious". It stars Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConnaghy, John Cusack, David Oyelowo, and a surprisingly good performance by singer Macy Gray. The plot is about reporters trying to save a death row murderer in 1969 Florida. The cast turns in universally good performances and the plot moves along briskly with several really interesting sub-plots. It's rated currently 6.5 at IMDB, but I would give it a 8 out of 10.

This is a very interesting documentary about the attempt of small Scottish farm owners to fight the American developper Donald Trump's attempt to build a golf course in Scotland. I have to say that I have never watched his TV show and that I have found his campaign to run for U.S. president along with his recent attempt to "buy" President Obama's college records to be laughable, so I entered the theatre with a bit of prejudice against him. The film did nothing to change my opinion of him, lol. He is a boor and a liar...

This is a documentary by the acclaimed Canadian Director/Actress Sarah Polley. The subject is Sarah's discovery that she was born as a result of an affair her late mother had. She interviews all her family members, and the scenes with her mother's husband are especially touching. The film got a lot of rave reviews at TIFF and is currently rated 8.6 out of 10 at IMDB.com. I found it fascinating and at a 1hr 48 min running time, not long at all. It shows the amazing versatility of Sarah who has directed a few well rece...

this is a very dark comedy directed and written by martin mcdonagh who directed the well reviewed "in bruges" a few years ago. it stars colin farrell, sam rockwell, christopher walken, and woody harrelson. it's about a chain of events which happen when a gangsters dog gets kidnapped. i found it extremely entertaining with a dry sense of humour. there are also many familiar faces in small roles such as harry dean stanton and singer tom waits. some people might be offended by some scenes of extreme violence. this will ...

This a French film which stars Lea Seydoux and Diane Kruger. It's about a girl who is a reader for Marie-Antoinette during the first few days of the French revolution in 1789. The acting is superb and if you are interested in this era and the comparison of lifestyles between the rich and the poor, you will find this movie very interesting. I give it a 7/10.

this is the new film directed by p. t. anderson and starrring joaqim pheonix, phillip seymour hoffman and amy adams. this movie is getting a lot of praise from the critics and was a big hit at TIFF. it's about a disturbed veteran who falls into contact with the founder of a scientology like cult in the postwar years. even though pheonix is grabbing kudos for his performance, i had trouble understanding his dialogue in many parts of the movie. hoffman & and adams do fine work as usual. i was somewhat disappointed ...

This is a new indie film which stars Matthew McConaghy as a corrupt Dallas cop who moonlights as a hit man and his involvement with a trailer trash family. It also stars Emile Hirsch, Thomas Haden Church, Juno Temple and Gina Gershon. There is excellent acting by all the leads in this very dark drama with some comedic undertones. I thoroughly enjoyed it and think it certainly deserves a wider release.  The film does touch on some sensitive sexual subjects and there are scenes of extreme violence, so if that both...
