This movie is written and directed by James Franco, who also stars in it, along with his brother Dave, and Canadian Seth Rogen. It's the story of the making of Tommy Wiseau's famous cult classic "The Room", which is probably on a lot of movie fans list as one of the worst movies ever made. Dave Franco, plays Tommy's friend Greg who gets sucked in the plan to make a feature film. Seth play the frustrated script supervisor of the movie, Sandy. There are a lot of familiar comedy faces who have sma...

This new movie starring Armie Hammer is getting a lot of good reviews. It takes place in the 80's in a summer residence of an American Professor in Northern Italy played by Micheal Stuhlbarg. Hammer plays another Professor who is a guest for six weeks. Over time Hammer's character develops a romantic relationship with Stuhlbarg's son, played by newcomer Timothee Chalamet. The Italian scenery is nice to look at and the acting is OK, although Hammer perhaps is miscast playing a Jewish American. Unfortunatl...

Thanks to Gofobo who gave me passes to this advance screening of this new film which will be released shortly, Gary Oldman plays Britain's wartime Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill. The make up job on Oldman is one of the best I've ever seen and Gary delivers a wonderful performance. The story is about the first few weeks of his Premiership where Britain & the allies were losing the war badly, and feared a Nazi invasion. Churchill had formed a coalition government with the opposition parties, but ther...

This is a 2016 movie which gives a fictionalized version of the 2006 Irish peace talks. Colm Meany plays IRA leader Martin McGuiness and Rafe Spall portrays the protestant leader Rev. Ian Paisley. Freddie Highmore is a British agent, the late John Hurt is a British Intelligence cheif and Toby Stephens plays former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. Meany and Spall are excellent as the warring Northern Ireland politicians, and the film is basically dialogue between the two of them as they make their way to a flight back t...

Thanks to The Reel Roundup, we attended an advance screening of this new movie which opens in wide release on Wednesday. Denzel Washington plays the lead role. His character is as a idealistic lawyer with a compulsive disorder who has spent the last 40 years as a partner in the background of a famous Los Angeles civil rights attorney. His life is turned upside down and he begins to question his own beliefs when his partner is struck down by a hear attack and dies. As expected, Denzel gives a very good performance. C...

Woody Harrelson gives one of the best performances I have ever seen from him in this historical - biographical film of the former American President. The movie shows Johnson's career from being the most powerful Senator in the USA, through his years as Jack Kennedy's powerless Vice-President to him delivering a remarkable speech as President demanding the the Congress pass civil rights legislation which estranged him from his fellow southerners. Woody shows the complexity of the man very well, and the make u...

We saw this movie starring Tom Cruise the other night. The film is supposedly taken from a true story. He plays Barry Seal, a TWA pilot who was caught by the CIA smuggling Cuban cigars from Canada and was blackmailed into flying missions into Central America to photograph military installations and to pay off the the former dictator of Panama, General Noriega. Seal gets greedy and ends up, at the same time working for the drug cartels, flying cocaine into the USA. Cruise does a good job, and Irish actor Domnhall Gle...

Lian Neeson portrays the late Mark Felt who was the famous Washington Post source "Deep Throat" and a Deputy Director of the FBI during the Watergate scandal of the 1970's that forced the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Perhaps whit the current problems in the USA, the movie is timely ! It shows how Felt, with 30 years service was deeply disgusted by the American governments trying to influence the FBI and stop the investigation. Lots of familar faces in small roles & we see Canadian Bruce ...

Topher Grace produces and stars in this 2016 romantic comedy which I don't think was relaesed in theatres in Canada. He plays Nick, a former failed actor who is the stage manager for a Broadway musical about one hit wonders starring JC Chavez, He is beset by a lot of problems including a crazy backer of the play, an eccentric cast, and dealing with his feelings towards his ex girlfriend who is a chorus girl in the play. It;s a bright, breezy film that deserved a wider release. Among the supporting players are Ta...

He meets a much younger girl, played by Leslie Mann, who is also doing community service and they develop an unusual relationship. Some fine actors are wasted in this 2016 movie. The story is about two estranged brothers (Richard Gere and Steve Coogan) and their wives ( Laura Linney and Rebecca Hall) who meet for a dinner at an expensive restaurant to discuss a mutual problem. Their sons who are friends have committed a horrible crime and haven't been found out. Over the course of the dinner, many unpleasant truths are brought out. British actor - comedian Steve Coogan is wildly miscast as an American high school teacher. Unfortunatley this...

Dame Judi Dench stars as Queen Victoria in this new movie directed by Stephen Frears. The movie is taken from a real period in her life when she developed an odd friendship with an Indian servant over the last 15 years of her life, Abdul Karim who is played by young Indian actor Ali Fazal. Comedian Eddie Izzard has a nice part as Bertie, the Queen's son and future King Edward VII and veteran scene stealer Micheal Gambon has a smaller role as Lord Salisbury, the British Prime Minister of the day. It's a very ...

Emma Stone and Steve Carrell are the stars of this new film in current release, They portray the leading figures of one of the strangest sports events of the 1970's , the famous tennis challenge match between 55 year old Bobby Riggs and 28 year old Billie Jean King. This was a huge event back then, and the film goes behind the scenes to show the personal struggles that both Riggs and King had to deal with at the time. There are many great 1970's tunes interjected which was quite enjoyable and set the mood. b...
