Home Depot & CIL Paint

so, i finally chose these colours i wanted for my apartment.

i would be painting the kitchen and hallway one colour, and my family room area another.

i wanted a matte finish, as i feel like shiny paint is so out dated. (my opinion.)

but, the girl working the paint counter told me, since i was painting my kitchen, i needed a bit of moisture protection.

so the next one up was slightly shiny.

she told me i would barely notice.

so, i bought "CIL Smart3" (that 3 is actually supposed to be small, it's not a typo.)

anwyays, so they put this guarantee on the product, which i thought was great because all the paint cost me (after tax) $135.

here's the guarantee, which is over now : http://cilsmartchallenge.ca/

now, my walls come out completely streaky. (see photo)

i was so upset. i tried more layers as people told me, some people told me to wait a few days/weeks and it would settle.

never did.

i was very upset.

at first i wasn't going to bother going through the trouble of getting my money back (which is on home depot gift cards by the way)

but, after a few weeks of having to look at it, i went for it.

after having to go to several different counters, trying to figure out who knew what i was talking about (i had the advertisement for it in my hands) they finally called the manager who just said "go ahead".

so we got our money back on the paint for gift cards.

i like that companies put gaurantees, but it sucks that i listened to the girl at the paint counter.

i recommend always going with your gut, and i sadly, wouldn't recommend this paint.

Roxy - Thank you for your thorough review, and sorry to hear about your experience with the paint. I am happy to hear they refunded the money you spent. That was the right move on your part, and thanks for including the photo here in the post for visual emphasis ^.

no problem evan! figure i might as well share my pain hahaha!!! it was nice of them to refund my money, even though it was a bit of a hassle to get it. i won't be listening to their advice anymore though, and will be going with my gut on which paint type i want.

Roxy - Sure thing. Great point too about trusting your gut as well. I believe we've all felt that way at certain points in our lives (listening to staff / family / friends / etc). We realize - "Ah, I should have gone with my first choice ..." - and I'm glad to hear that things worked out for you. It's a good move on their part as it regains your trust and possible future business. If they had pulled some run-around and denied you a refund of any sort, you would have gladly mentioned to others the poor experience with them, and rightfully so. More businesses could certainly learn from that with their no refund/exchange policies and decisions (as it's really aggravating for consumers).
